Some customers have reported a recent change from Microsoft that introduced the Copilot AI feature into SharePoint sites, which has led to a popup and a new sidebar that many users are finding intrusive. This addition is not something that Akumina has implemented, nor do we have control over disabling it.
To turn off Copilot in Microsoft 365 apps, follow these steps using the Microsoft 365 Admin Center. This will allow you to manage whether Copilot is active for all users or just specific groups.
Step-by-Step Guide for Admins:
1. Accessing the Admin Center:
- Sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center with a global administrator account.
2. Navigate to Copilot Settings:
- In the left panel, click on Settings > Organization Settings.
- Under the Services tab, look for Copilot or Integrated Applications. Copilot will be listed as a hosted product here.
3. Turn Off or Manage Access:
- You can either:
- Disable Copilot for All Users: This will turn off Copilot across the entire organization.
- Restrict Access to Specific Users: You can selectively allow or block access to Copilot for certain users or groups. This is useful if you only want some users to have access.
4. Wait for Changes to Take Effect:
- It may take up to 24 hours for the changes to be fully implemented across your organization.
5. Delete Copilot License (If Applicable):
- If you’ve assigned specific licenses for Copilot, you can remove the access by de-assigning these licenses from the user(s) in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
6. For Non-Admins:
- If you do not have administrator privileges, you'll need to reach out to your organization's IT administrator to make these changes for you.
Key Notes:
- No Users: This option fully disables Copilot for everyone in your organization.
- Specific Users: If you choose to limit Copilot access, make sure to assign permissions to specific groups or individuals based on your needs.
- Keep in mind that changes to Copilot settings can take up to 24 hours to propagate across your tenant.
This should help you regain control over the presence of Copilot in Microsoft 365 apps. If you run into any issues or have more specific questions, feel free to ask!
